Aufgrund der fortschreitenden Digitalisierung steigt bei Organisationen und Unternehmen die Menge an gespeicherten und verwertbaren Informationen kontinuierlich. Visualisierungsfunktionen und Auswertungs-Algorithmen werden daher immer wichtiger, gerade wenn es um die Analyse großer Datenmengen geht.

Accessibility data

The importance of data analysis and visualization is demonstrated by the current state of accessibility. There is a dearth of reliable data that could serve as a basis for modern AI-based assistive technologies. To understand the necessity of digital accessibility, it is helpful to ask the following questions:

  • How many people actually depend on digital accessibility?
  • How many people would benefit from this without even realizing it?
  • How exactly and through which websites do people with disabilities prefer to navigate the internet?
  • To what extent have digital accessibility standards already been implemented in Germany?
  • How does Germany fare in international comparison?

Answers to these questions, as well as reliable data related to digital accessibility, are hard to find. However, some meaningful datasets do exist. In a small data project, we visualized this information for training purposes.

There is no clear answer to the question of how many people depend on digital accessibility. Surveys on the number of people living with a disability in Germany can at least provide a rough estimate.

The issued disability ID cards provide an indication of the diversity and quantitative proportions of the individual user groups.

Many people believe that most people are born with disabilities. However, this intuition does not correspond to reality.

This graphic shows how the number of people with severe disabilities correlates with age. The majority of people develop a disability later in life due to age or illness.
