Wie ein Schleier hat Corona alle anderen Themen überlagert. Dennoch hat das letzte Jahr einige Veränderungen gebracht.
Die Deutsche Gebärdensprache ist seit März 2021 Teil des immateriellen Kulturerbes. Im Mai 2021 wurde das Barrierefreiheits-Stärkungs-Gesetz verabschiedet, die deutsche Umsetzung des European Accessibility Act. Das Gesetz gilt als wenig ambitioniert, weil es wichtige Bereiche wie das Bauen ausspart und ansonsten exorbitant lange Umsetzungsfristen hat. Wir dürfen gespannt sein, ob die neue Bundesregierung das Gesetz noch einmal nachschärfen wird.

Subjectively, the number of articles about accessibility, particularly regarding accessible computer games, has increased in Germany. In the US and among internationally operating companies, the high number of lawsuits due to a lack of accessibility seems to be leading to a change in thinking.

The devastating floods in July in parts of North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate have highlighted the shortcomings of disaster preparedness in Germany. The accessibility of existing warning channels leaves much to be desired. The simple tool of local SMS alerts is still not being used. This, too, should be an issue for the new government. As mentioned above, the first reports on the accessibility of public institutions in Germany are already available. The results are mixed, but they should at least prompt some institutions to focus more on this issue, especially since the new federal government apparently intends to invest more resources in digitalization.

Den Ausblick können wir kurz halten. Das Update der Barrierefreiheits-Richtlinien WCAG 2.2 soll im Sommer 2022 kommen. Das große Update WCAG 3.0 ist in große Ferne gerückt. Skills in Sachen Barrierefreiheit dürften immer gefragter werden. Leider gibt es aber kaum qualifizierte Personen in Deutschland. Ansonsten ist für 2022 noch keine Entwicklung absehbar.

Ob es an der unklaren Corona-Lage liegt oder wir noch halb im Winterschlaf sind, bislang sind kaum größere Veranstaltungen zur Barrierefreiheit bekannt. Wenn Sie aber Ihren Kalender schon einmal füllen möchten, werfen Sie einen Blick auf unsere Veranstaltungsliste.
