Don't be afraid of accessibility

Angst und Panik sollten nie der Treiber für eine wichtige Entscheidung sein. Leider scheinen das viele Accessibility Consultants anders zu sehen, darunter nicht nur unsere heißgeliebten Overlay--Anbieter. Aus unserer Erfahrung wissen wir, dass komplexe Entscheidungen Zeit benötigen. Eine Aussage wie etwa "Werden Sie bis zum 25. Juni 2025 barrierefrei, sonst wird ihr Angebot vom Markt genommen" ist inhaltlich nicht ganz korrekt und generell nicht sinnvoll. Die Frist gilt für Angebote, die nach diesem Datum auf den Markt kommen. Für Bestands-Angebote gibt es eine Übergangsfrist, sofern diese Angebote nicht wesentlich geändert werden.
The decision to implement accessibility measures should be based on strategies and well-thought-out actions, and should be designed for the long term. The public sector has been obligated to do so for over 20 years and is still struggling with it. However, this doesn't mean you should postpone making decisions. That won't do you any favors.
Good news of the month
The BeMyEyes app is now also available as a Windows application. With BeMyEyes, sighted volunteers can support blind people with visual tasks, for example by sharing their camera.

Nach dem Motto jeder möchte alt werden, niemand möchte alt sein geht es in diesem Monat um die Anforderungen der über 65-jährigen an Apps und Websites. 81 Prozent sind frustriert von Websites und Apps. 11 Prozent würden mehr ausgeben, wenn sie besser bedienbar wären.

- nicht ausreichend Zeit, um die Aufgabe zu erledigen
It is also interesting that the problems are distributed relatively evenly across the groups; those over 80 do not have significantly more or different problems than those between 65 and 79.
The survey was conducted in November 2023 as a telephone and online interview. Participants were from Great Britain.
